I started making these in college when I found the recipe.  They were a hit, to put it mildly.  I often make them now for an easy pan of chocolately-goodness to share.  They're really easy and quick to make.

Preheat the oven to 350°.


*1/2 c margarine
Melt together the milk, 2 T of butter and chocolate chips for the filling. Add vanilla and let it cool.
*1 c brown sugar
*1 egg
*1 1/4 c flour
*1 c oatmeal
*1/2 t baking soda
*1 c nuts (optional)

Cream the 1/2 cup butter and sugar together for the dough/crust.  Add the egg and beat together until light. Mix in baking soda, oatmeal, and flour.


#Melt together the milk, margarine and chocolate chips.
Pat 2/3 of the dough mixture into a 9x13 pan. Spread the chocolate filling over the dough. Mix the nuts into the remaining dough. Dot/crumble/spoon the remaining dough onto the filling.
#Add vanilla, cool.
#Cream 1/2 c margarine and sugar, add egg.
#Beat until light.
#Mix in baking soda, oatmeal, and flour.
#Pat 2/3 of the mixture into a 9x13 pan.  
#Spread with the chocolate filling.  
#Add remaining dough and nuts.  
#Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
