Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 c flour (+ 1/2 c)
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 1/4 c milk, scalded
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pkg yeast

Glaze

  • 2/3 c water
  • 2/3 c sugar

Preparation

Combine flour, sugar, shortening and salt like for a pie crust. Add scalded milk, yeast, and eggs. Knead. Let rise. Knead again. When "light", roll in lengths about size of a pencil. Make into a figure 8, place on a cookie sheet. Let rise. Bake in 400 oven for 7-11 minutes on the bottom rack, then move to the top rack for ~4 minutes to brown.
