Ingredients
- 1 c butter/butter-flavored Crisco
- 2 c sugar
- 1 c light brown sugar
- 2/3 c dark corn syrup
- 6 large eggs
- 6 oz unsweetened chocolate OR 1 1/8 c cocoa plus 6 T oil
- 2 c flour (fork-stirred)
- 2 c walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 t almond extract
Preparation
Butter the bottom and sides of two 8x8" pans. Note: do not use a 9x13 pan; the batter won't cook well in the center.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together until blended: butter, both sugars, and syrup. Stir in eggs, one at a time, until blended. In a small saucepan over very low heat, melt chocolate. Stir into sugar mixture until well blended. Add almond extract and flour; stir until smooth. Add nuts and stir until evenly distributed. Pour into prepared pans and spread evenly.
Bake at 350° until toothpick comes out clean, about 40-50 minutes. Place on wire rack to cook, then refrigerate uncovered until completely cool. Cut into bars.
Note: these freeze well.
