This is our primary brownie recipe; it gets made more frequently than any other (the First and Foremost Brownies recipe comes in second).
Ingredients
- 3/4 c cocoa
- 1/2 t baking soda
- 2/3 c butter/margarine, melted, divided
- 1/2 c boiling water (or substitute liqueur of choice)
- 2 c sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/3 c flour
- 1 t vanilla
- 1/4 t salt
- 1 3/4 c (10 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chunks
Preparation
Heat oven to 350°. Grease 9x13" pan. Stir together cocoa and baking soda; blend in 1/3 c melted butter. Add boiling water (or other liquid, warmed); stir until mixture thickens. Stir in sugar, eggs, and remaining 1/3 c melted butter until smooth. Add flour, vanilla, and salt; blend well. Stir in chocolate chunks. Pour into prepared pan and bake 35-40 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely in pan on wire rack before cutting into squares.
