Ingredients
- 1/2 c port wine
- 1/2 c water
- 1/4 c sugar
- 1 T lemon juice
- 2 3-inch cinnamon sticks
- 6 whole cloves
- 5-6 large, fresh red-ripe plums
- whipped cream for garnish
Preparation
In a medium saucepan, heat all of the ingredients except the plums and garnish. Add the plums and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, until the plums are tender when pierced with a fork, about 5 minutes.
Remove the plums from the wine mixture and cut them into quarters. (Remove skins if desired) Discard the pits. Meanwhile, return the liquid to a boil, and continue cooking for about 5 minutes. Remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves.
Arrange the plum quarters in individual bowls. Spoon the port wine sauce over the plums and garnish with whipped cream.
