Ingredients

  • 1 c shortening
  • 1/2 c butter/margarine, softened
  • 2 c packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1 t maple flavoring
  • 3 c flour
  • 2 t baking soda
  • 2 c vanilla chips
  • 1/2 c chopped pecans

Frosting

  • 1/4 c butter/margarine, softened
  • 4 c confectioner's sugar
  • 1 t maple flavoring
  • 4-6 T milk
  • 3 1/2 c pecan halves

Preparation

Cream shortening, butter, and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Beat in vanilla and maple flavoring. Combine flour and soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla chips and pecans.

Bake on ungreased sheets at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 2 minutes before removing to racks.

Cream butter & sugar. Beat in flavoring and milk. Frost cooled cookies. Top each with a pecan half.
