Ingredients

  • 2 t olive oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey/beef
  • 1/3 c chopped yellow onion
  • 1/3 c chopped green bell pepper (optional)
  • 1 8-oz can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 c ketchup
  • 1 1/2 T yellow mustard
  • 2 t Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 t kosher salt
  • 1/2 t ground black pepper

Preparation

In a large skillet over medium high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the ground meat, onion and bell pepper. Cook 4-5 minutes until the meat is browned, crumbling with a spoon while cooking.

Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt and pepper and stir well to combine. Lower the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Cover and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce is slightly thickened.
