When dough cycle is finished (including having risen), divide dough into three pieces. Roll each piece into a 12” long rectangle; spread with margarine. Sprinkle sugar and cardamom together; sprinkle on dough. (A fairly thick layer is okay.) Roll each piece into a 12” rope; braid pieces together. Let rise on greased baking sheet until approximately doubled in size. Brush evenly with frothy egg white or beaten egg; sprinkle with large sugar crystals. | |||

Ingredients
- 1 c scalded milk
- 1/3 c water
- 1/3 c egg substitute
- 1/3 c sugar
- 1 1/3 t salt
- 1/3 c shortening
- 1 T cardamom
- 4 - 4 1/2 c flour
- 1 T yeast
Filling
- margarine/butter
- 1/3 c sugar
- 1/4 t cardamom
- egg or egg white, beaten
- large sugar crystals for topping
Preparation
Put all ingredients in bread machine on dough cycle (in order given or specified by bread machine).
